Cross River moves to eradicate Maternal Neonatal Tetanus

The Cross River State government has government has expressed its determination to completely eradicate the scourge of Maternal Neonatal Tetanus among pregnant women in the state.

This was disclosed by the wife of the wife of the Cross River State Governor, Dr. Mrs Lynda Ayade during the flag off of vaccination to eliminate the prevalence of the ailment in the state.

According to her, “it is our strong desire to eliminate tetanus from Cross River State, completely”.

“Every girl and woman of childbearing age, 15 – 49 years, must seize the opportunity to benefit from the exercise”, she said.

She added that the immunization exercise is the key to the prevention of Tetanus disease in Nigeria while raising awareness on the dangers of neonatal tetanus, warning that, “mothers could be infected during unsafe and unhygienic delivery of their babies.”

The wife of Governor who also flagged off the world breastfeeding week, encouraging mothers to “breastfeed exclusively for 6 months and then continuously for one to two years as it helps in proper development of the child’s brain and immune system. It also helps bonding and prevents breast cancer
