Cross River to conduct LGAs election, May 2023

Cross River Government through the State Independent Electoral Commission has issued a notice of election for local government councils in the state.

Chairman of the Commission, Mike Ushie announced this during a meeting with stakeholders at the Commission’s office in Calabar.
He disclosed that this is consistent with the amended electoral act of 2022 which allows 360 days notice of elections.
Issuing the notice, Ushie said “in compliance with the provisions of Section 28(1) of the 2022 electoral act as amended, which allows 360 days for issuance of notice of election that marks the commencement, preparation, conduct and conclusion of electoral activities, the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) hereby, today, Monday 30th May, 2022 issue notice of election for the 2023 local government councils election in the state.
“Accordingly, all electoral activities commences today culminating on Wednesday, 24th May, 2023 as the date for the local government councils election in the state”, he said.
He requested all political parties and stakeholders to note and comply accordingly towards a successful, free and credible election in the state.
In a reaction, the Special Adviser to the governor on Inter Party Affairs (South) expressed confidence in the ability of the commission to conduct a credible election.
