The Chairman of the Cross River State Civil Society Network, Comr. Ben Usang has called for a comprehensive investigation into the sexual assault case in the University of Calabar.
Comrade Usang made the call in Calabar during a collaboration meeting organised by Amnesty International for Civil Society Organisations in the state.
He charged Amnesty international not to limit its inquiry to Investigating allegations of sexual harassment alone but extend it’s dragnets to corruption allegations levelled against top management staff of the Institution.
Usang stated that if Amnesty international is interested having a standard report, it should dig deep beyond the surface so that their report would not be lopsided.
He said that although Investigation into issues of sexual harassment was a step in the right direction stressing that it would be good if the organisation goes deep to also deal with allegations of corruption levelled against managers of the Institution.
Earlier, Amnesty international country director, Isa Sanusi, said they are engaging with CSOs in the state to deepen the drive to protect human rights.
He condemned the rise in jungle justice in the state and affirmed the organisation’s opposition to the death penalty which the state still has in it’s laws.
He said the campaign for life should not be abridged in any way and they hope to continue with their partnerships and relationship with stakeholders in the state for a better society.
