[From CHINEDU NWAFOR, Abakaliki]
Ebonyi Government said it had constituted an 11-man Committee headed by the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious and Welfare Matters, Rev Fr. Abraham Nwali, to ensure smooth takeoff of the three newly constructed universities in the state.

Rev. Fr. Abraham Nwali who disclosed this in a joint press briefing with other Cabinet members, after the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday at the EXCO chambers, old government House, Abakaliki, said the three universities were located, one, in each of the three senatorial zones of the State.
Nwali added that the committee was directed to liaise with the management of the three universities to ensure smooth takeoff.
He said: “11-man committee to see to the take off three universities in the Ebonyi State. And these universities are located one by one in the three senatorial zone. The University of Science and Technology is located in Izzi, the Aeronautical University in Ezza South and King David Umahi University of Medical Science in Uburu, Ohaozara LGA.
“The 11-man committee will be interfacing with the management of the universities and Ebonyi State government especially the King David Umahi University of Medical Sciences. The committee is to always interfacing with the various management of the universities, to ensure smooth takeoff.
“When these universities will take effect, we shall be having people both within and outside the State and the country to come and live with us and acquire education in our environment and that will enhance the economy, the growth, the education and all it takes, including moral and religious discipline of our dear State.”
The State Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Chief Emmanuel Uguru, on his part, announced that the Council had approved the recertification of Certificate of Occupancy of all landed properties in the State capital at the cost of N20,000 to be paid by each landed property owners.
“Among the issue deliberated in EXCO today is the issue of recertification of Certificate of Occupancies for landed properties especially the ones within the urban area. There has been incessant complaints of people struggling over one piece of land. Some are in court; and petitions here and there. As a result of this, EXCO decided that there should be recertification. What this means, is that, each person should bring up his/her Certificate of Occupancy and while bringing it, you must come along with the sum of N20,000 only to recertify it.
“The idea is not to make money, but to resolve a situation where two or more persons will be struggling over a piece of land. Again, if you have property anywhere within the State capital, you have to pay your annual premium. It is stated in the Certificate of Occupancy that you are normally given. So, while you are coming you are to come with the evidence of that payment. Should you not have, you have to pay it, otherwise, even the Certificate of Occupancy you are parading will be of no value.
“Government is also asking everybody who has landed property in the capital city to get Certificate of Occupancy, otherwise, you do not own the land,” Uguru said.
Also, the State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barrister Uchenna Orji, said the Council approved the construction of 26 modern schools across the State, with two per LGA, adding that the project would be undertaken with N1.5bn facility to be secured by government.
According to him, considering its importance, EXCO quickly set up a committee headed by Rev. Fr. Abraham Nwali andthe duty of this committee is to ensure that the right choice of schools are made, location is very critical and ensure that the need assessment is carried out.
