The NBA also accused one Inspector Emmanuel Lawrence and wife of having a hand in deceased death.

The Onueke Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association NBA alleged that motive for the murder was not unconnected to the threats coming from the police officer and wife and the manner in which he was lured out of his house for the plans to be executed.

NBA said Mrs. Amechi Gloria was brutally stabbed to death in her residence at No. 1 Enyi Close Nkaliki on the 22nd of November 2021, while her husband was being unlawfully detained at the Central Police Station Abakaliki.

The group alleged that the unlawful detention was on the orders of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP. Ikechukwu Okoro with the connivance of the Investigating Police Officer, Geoffrey Aghachi, one Inspector Emmanuel Lawrence and his wife.

According to the petition, the NBA explained that trouble started when Mrs. Lawrence converted part of her rented apartment to a mini poultry house, an act which constituted unbearable nuisance against other tenants in the premises.

“Acting on the persistent complaint raised against the said nuisance, Barr. Enyi who manages the property appealed to her to dismantle the poultry house made of wood and cease further rearing of the chicken in the premises.”

“Mrs. Lawrence flagrantly refused to yield to the entreaties made by Barr. Enyi which prompted him with the assistance of the caretaker of the premises and other tenants to remove the wooden house.”

The petition further alleged that Mr. Lawrence and wife started unleashing threats against the Barr. Shedrack who was later arrested and detained at CPS, following complaint made at the police station by Mr. Lawrence and wife.

NBA expressed the regret that Barr. Enyi was later granted bail with the sum of ten thousand naira (N10,000) and was subsequently rearrested again after he petition the Police Commissioner for the transfer of the case from CPS to the State’s police headquarters.

“Our colleague again was thrown into cell on the orders of the said DPO of Central Police Station on Saturday 20th November 2021 and remained incarcerated till Monday morning, 22nd November 2021.”

The group further stated the deceased who was full of life before she was wickedly and brutally murdered inside their residence.

In interview with journalists, Barrister Enyi corroborated the content of the petition, adding that he was released from detention by DPO, CSP Okoro after they had allegedly murdered his wife.

Enyi said he suspected foul play, as according to him, it was same DPO, CSP Okoro, who went to his House to take his wife to the mortuary without prior information, before he returned to the station to release him, only to get home and discovered that his wife had been murdered and her body deposited in the morgue.

“On that Sunday night that my wife was murdered, I asked the officers on duty to give my phone to call my family, they told me that the IPO went home with my phone. And I strongly suspect that it was that my phone that the IPO took home that they used to lure my wife, because I live in my own residence and there was nothing to show that the killers forcefully gained access into my residence,” Enyi added.

He called on the Inspector General of Police and other relevant authorities to ensure that the gruesome murder of his wife was thoroughly investigated and the culprits brought to justice.
