Ebonyi PDP: Ogba, Odii factions nominate running mates for 2023 guber election

The Senator representing Ebonyi Central Zone in the National Assembly, Obinna Ogba and Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii who are laying claim to the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) for the 2023 Governorship election in Ebonyi State have nominated and subsequently submitted their running mates to the national working committee of the PDP in Abuja.
While Ogba nominated the lawmaker representing Ivo State Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Dr. Oliver Osi, as his running mate, Odii on the other hand, nominated the Senator who represented Ebonyi Central Senatorial zone, Paulinus Igwe Nwagu as his running mate.
Nwagu hails from Ezza North Local Government Area of the State.
Odii submitted Nwagu’s name earlier in the week while Ogba submitted Dr Oliver Osi’s name on Wednesday to the national secretariat.
Recall that the duo have been enmeshed in a tussle over who is the authentic governorship flagbearer of the PDP, in Ebonyi State, come 2023.
Ogba, in a letter dated June 22, 2023, which was addressed to the National Chairman of the Party and its National Organising Secretary, said the nomination of Dr Oliver Osi was in compliance with section 187 (1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Electoral Guideline and the Peoples Democratic Party Guideline.
The letter, which was received by the National Organising Secretary of the PDP, on Thursday, and obtained by Our Correspondent, reads in part, “Nomination of my deputy governorship candidate for the 2023 general election in Ebonyi State…
“The subject matter refers:
“In compliance with section 187 (1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Electoral Guideline and the Peoples Democratic Party Guideline, I write to convey my nomination of Hon. Dr. Oliver O. Osi, as the Deputy Governorship Candidate of our great party in the forthcoming 2023 general election.
“His nomination is the outcome of detailed and wide-ranging consultations with party stakeholders in the state. I have no doubt that his inclusion will add strong electoral value to our ticket.”
