‘Ebubeagu operatives, breakaway ESN faction responsible for violent attacks, killings in South East,’ says IPOB
Pro-secession group in the South East region of the country, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has named operatives of the regional security outfit, Ebubeagu, along with a breakaway faction of its own Eastern Security Network (ESN), as being responsible for the killings, spate of violent attacks on government installations, as well as, on residents of the Igbo states.
The ESN is a creation of IPOB established to check the menace of Fulani herdsmen in the South East region following the incapacity of the federal Government to check their killings and other crimes perpetrated against host communities in the country.
IPOB also claimed that the now discredited sit-at-home was still being enforced across the South East region by these armed groups.
A statement issued by spokesman for IPOB, Mr. Emma Powerful, on Tuesday, publicly named the ‘unknown gunmen’ terrorising the region as members of the local Ebubeagu security team and self-acclaimed members of the ESN.
IPOB listed commanders of these armed group as; “Chibuike Igwe, Paul Udenwa, Okwudili Dim (aka) One Nigeria, Sky from Umutanze Orlu, and a man nicknamed 2men from Umuna.”
IPOB further listed others terrorising Orlu in Imo State as Chinedu Agbaradu-Amagu commander; Cheta odinkenma – Amagu; Uchenna Nwachukwu; Chibyke Gezek Amagu and Chukwudi Odimegwu.
He further listed impersonators of ESN members in Oru East and Njaba LGAs of Imo State as: Akiriko Atta; Kingkom. The impersonators of ESN members in Orsu-Ihiteukwa are: The man called Uru; Sky; No one; Double lion and a man called; Commander.
IPOB, thereafter, placed a bounty on the head of the aforementioned persons, it declared them ‘wanted, and anybody who can give useful information about them will get handsome reward.’
“We, the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the command and leadership of our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to disclose the names of Ebubeagu security team terrorising and killing innocent citizens of Imo State.
“The Ebubeagu leaders who are behind the killings in Orlu senatorial zone of Imo State are as follows: 1) Chibuike Igwe 2) Paul Udenwa From Amaifeke Orlu 3) Okwudili Dim (aka) One Nigeria 4) The man called Sky from Umutanze Orlu and the man called 2men from Umuna in Orlu. “These criminals mentioned have done a lot of damage to our people living in Orlu area of Imo State. IPOB has always told the public that the above-mentioned hoodlums are part of the criminalities going on in our land.
“No criminal should be allowed to demonise IPOB. These agents of darkness and their sponsors should be brought to book to pay for their atrocities,” the statement read.
It would be recalled that IPOB had severally threatened to sanction erring operatives who continued to disrupt the lives of the South East people under the guise of sit-at-home order, as it said the directive has been called off.
However, even as the enforcement continued, many in the region had pointed accusing fingers at Simon Ekpa, a self-acclaimed disciple of Kanu, who had sworn to continue with the armed struggle of actualizing the Biafra agenda.
Nnamdi Kanu is billed to appear at the Federal High Court in Abuja, mid-May in continuation of his trial on a seven-count charge of terrorism, and others preferred against him by the Nigerian government.
The scheduled court appearance is to determine his bail application following the striking out by the presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako, of eight out of the 15-count charge at the last hearing, penultimate week.
