EFCC arrests Ogun House Speaker, Oluomo for graft
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Mr Olakunle Oluomo.
The Speaker was reportedly arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, by operatives of the anti-graft agency, Thursday morning, for offences said to e bordering on financial misappropriation, forgery and money laundering.
The embattled lawmaker had failed to honour two previous invitations to the agency to explain his involvement in the allegations, and was picked up at the Lagos airport. He was reportedly driven straight to the EFCC office in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The speaker was first invited by the EFCC in December, last year, with another invitation sent last January, even as the lawmaker failed to honour both.
Leadership of the Ogun Assembly has yet to react to the development, just as the EFCC is yet to confirm the arrest.
In January 2022, EFCC invited Oluomo for questioning over alleged financial misappropriation, forgery and money laundering.
EFCC had earlier in a letter dated December 9, 2021, with a reference No: CR:3000/EFCC/LS/CMU/OG1/VOL.3/165, asked Oluomo to report to its Lagos office but the Speaker had claimed he was working “on the 2022 budget presented by Governor Dapo Abiodun.”
However, in another letter dated January 05, 2022, with reference No: CR:3000/EFCC/LS/CMU/OG1/VOL.1/004, the EFCC asked the Speaker to report to its office along with the Accountant and Director of Finance and Account for questioning.
