Eko Disco reinforces pledge to WIEN’s capacity programs

The management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) Limited has restated its commitment to the existing collaboration with the nation’s leading gender advocate, Women In Energy Network (WIEN), on driving and supporting capacity development among female professionals, workers and investors in the energy industry.
Managing Director, Mrs. Rekhiat Momoh, who hosted a delegation from WIEN to a working visit in her office, stated that the objectives the group plugs directly into the internal aspirations of her management in advancing the knowledge base for workers and advancing the capacity of partners to deliver services efficiently.

She stated that EKEDC would explore all area of mutual cooperation in existing capacity and knowledge building programs currently run by WIEN for members and non-members, adding that the group’s advocacy projects has significantly found voice for women in corporate organizations and pubic space.
In calling for greater interaction with leaders of the group, Mrs Momoh stated that the company would continue to support empowerment of women not only for interest of the beneficiaries but also for the benefits of their homes and the country.
She reiterated the commitment of the company to meeting its obligation to its workers in taking advantage of available opportunities offered in the membership of WIEN.
In recalling that she was the only female during the recruitment exercise when she joined Eko Disco, Mrs Momoh commended WIEN in driving the advocacy that harnesses the country’s all gender capacity in delivering values that grow the economy and the society simultaneously. She also appreciated WIEN for creating the needed awareness and providing the confidence that enables women to boldly step up to take positions in an industry space traditionally dominated by men.
Executive Secretary of WIEN, Engr Asanimo Omezi, had earlier in her introductory remarks briefed Mrs Momoh on the corporate membership of the company, stating that the visit became necessary following her elevation to the position of Managing Director.

Engr Omezi congratulated Mrs Momoh on the sterling qualities and performance records that recommended her for the position. She assured her of the strong support base that WIEN provides for women in the corporate boards of companies.
She reminded Mrs Momoh that Eko Disco has remained one of the earliest corporate members of WIEN and informed her that the group’s membership when it took off in 2020 has grown from 80 to 700 and counting. Engr Asanimo attributed that the rapid membership growth to the quality of values the group delivers as the prime support network for women business leaders in the energy industry.
In discussing some of the initiatives undertaken by WIEN to empower women in the energy sector, Engr Asanimo emphasized that the group is driven by excellence mainly because women are thorough and sustainable in their commitments; a quality she said is misconstrued in the society as being slow.

She informed the MD of Eko Disco that the activities of the group, aside the primary advocacy for gender equity in the industry, take account of inclusive engagement on capacity building, closing knowledge gaps, pitching rookie employees with experienced veterans for complete understanding of the business chain and career mentoring.
For women enterprise upstarts in the industry, she said, WIEN assists them align business principles and targets with policies and regulations that govern the industry in order to assist them operate smoothly and grow fast.
She also listed the group’s programs that are designed to provide experience pools for mentoring and coaching of younger members and business upstarts. The program, according to her, captures mentoring pools for the WIEN College Community which provides mentoring and sundry support for girls in STEM education.
During the insightful meeting and discussions on potential collaborations and initiatives to empower women in the energy sector, WIEN members on the staff of Eko Disco declared that membership of the group has achieved a lot for the company.
