Enugu 2023 governorship: Group drums support for Ekweremadu

Former Deputy President of the Senate, and incumbent Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Chief Ike Ekweremadu has been called upon to consider contesting the governorship seat of Enugu State in 2023.
A pressure group, Ikeoha Support Group (ISG) made the call in a letter addressed to Ekweremadu, which was obtained by our Correspondent at the weekend.
The letter, titled, “Enugu 2023: The Need To Bring The Service Of A Tested & Trusted Hand With Massive Experience, National Visibility & Global Reach To Bear In The Governance Of Enugu State: A Call On Senator Ike Ekweremadu To Contest The 2023 Governorship Election In Enugu State”, was signed by the group’s chairman, Engr Matthew Eze; Secretary, Comrade Samuel Njoku; and Anthony Okwute, Publicity Secretary.
According to them, Ekweremadu belongs to politicians of super ranking, higher degree of experience, solid visibility in Nigeria and thick global reach needed to move Enugu State to the foremost level of development where it rightfully belongs in the league of affairs in Nigeria.
“As sons of Enugu State, we have keen interest on how to enthrone the best of leadership that can guarantee prosperity with tight security and rapid development in all sectors of governance in our dear State.
“We have carefully studied the situation of things, and after extensive deliberation decided to urge Senator Ike Ekweremadu to join the 2023 race to the Lion Building office of the Governor of Enugu State.
“We believe that he has all it takes to harness the resources of Enugu State into productive services, attract Federal presence like never before and use his wide connection across the globe to attract fortune to Enugu State”, the group said.
The group vowed to mobilize support for Ekweremadu to the best of its ability, even as it rejected the idea of zoning in the next governorship election in Enugu State.
