Enugu State government through its Capital Territory Development Authority, (ECTDA), on Friday, sealed the hall of Bon Platinum hotel where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issued certificates of return to the Enugu state Governor-Elect, Peter Mbah; his deputy, Ifeanyi Ossai and 17 elected House of Assembly members-elect in the state on Thursday.
According to available information, the hotel was sealed due to an alleged structural defect of the double decker hall which caused a big bang during the issuance of the certificates of return.
The bang which shook the building caused pandemonium, a development that made the dignitaries including the recipients, the commissioner of police, the INEC staff and numerous others to scamper for safety.
The near botched event was later completed
It was reported that there was a loud bang in the hall which sent the people scampering out of the hall, causing a stampede.
Inspecting the hotel on Friday, the ECTDA Chairman,Josef Onoh said the building had no approval plan, including another structure under construction by the hotel management.
He said the hall would remain shut pending the outcome of further checks.
He said: “the proprietor is not ready to exercise patience for the Nigeria Society of Engineers to come for their own inspection. He is asking us to allow her host a wedding there tomorrow. I wonder how much she collected that the venue cannot be relocated.”END//
