Equities investors gain N247.93 as NGXASI advances 0.44%
Nigeria’s equities market closed positive on Friday, as the NGX-ASI increased to 97,456.62 from 97,025.17 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +30.34%.
The market performance for the week increased by 1.06% to 97,456.62 from 96,433.53 recorded at the beginning of the week
Market capitalization increased by N247.92 billion to N56.001 trillion from N55.753 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. However, the market turnover decreased to N6.013 billion from N7.974 billion.
At the end of the last weekday of trading , a total of 412,902,328 shares in 8,803 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 6,467,374,568.46, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, September 12), today’s data shows 6% improvement in volume, 19% decline in turnover, and 8% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56 trillion.
In the aggregate, 119 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 33 gainers and 20 losers. Flour Mills Nigeria led the gainers with 9.99% share price appreciation closing at NGN 54.50 per share, followed by Caverton Offshore Support Group (+9.96%), Ecobank Transnational (+9.95%) and RT Briscoe (+9.94%).
On the losing side, Daar Communications came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.72% at NGN 0.65 per share, followed by Deap Capital Management & Trust (-8.82%), PZ Cussons Nigeria (-8.48%) and Custodian & Allied (-8.45%). Japaul Gold and Ventures recorded the highest volume of 106 million traded shares, followed by FBN Holdings (43.2m), Zenith Bank (28.6m) and United Bank for Africa (15.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 431.45 (0.44%) points to close at 97,456.62, representing a 1-week gain of 1.06%, a 4-week gain of 0.37%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 30.34%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.46%; +0.82% 1WK; +29.36% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+2.72%; +5.12% 1WK; +0.32% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.41%; +1.59% 1WK; +28% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+1.25%; +1.47% 1WK; +40.85% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1.2%; +2.45% 1WK; +19.17% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (+0.78%; +3.06% 1WK; +23.06% YTD).
