Equities investors gain N45.84bn as NGXASI appreciates by 0.08%
Nigeria’s equities market closed positive on Tuesday, as the NGX-ASI increased to 96,873.74 from 96,793.95 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +29.56%.
Market capitalization increased by N46 billion to N55.647 trillion from N55.601 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. However, the market turnover decreased to N10.411 billion from N11.037 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 473,003,572 shares in 12,532 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 10,411,315,965.29, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, September 2), today’s data shows 5% decline in volume, 6% decline in turnover, and 5% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 121 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 29 gainers and 30 losers. Industrial & Medical Gases led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 31.90 per share, followed by C&I Leasing (+10%), Guinea Insurance (+10%) and Eterna (+9.9%).
On the losing side, RT Briscoe came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 2.88 per share, followed by Abbey Mortgage Bank (-9.96%), Secure Electronic Technology (-9.72%) and McNichols (-9.68%). Access Holdings recorded the highest volume of 106 million traded shares, followed by Oando (46.9m), Prestige Assurance Company (31.7m) and United Bank for Africa (20.2m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 79.79 (0.08%) points to close at 96,873.74, representing a 1-week gain of 0.38%, a 4-week loss of 0.06%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 29.56%.
