Equities Market bearish as NGX-ASI declines by 0.02%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Monday as the NGX-ASI decreased by 0.03% to close at 55,806.71 compared to 55,822.82 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +8.89%.
In similar vein, market capitalization decreased by N8.8 billion to N30.3870 trillion from N30.3958 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover rose to N19.84 billion from N6.12 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 369,779,627 shares in 7,221 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 19,841,209,191.01, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, June 2), today’s data shows 19% decline in volume, 224% improvement in turnover, but 3% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 30.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 122 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 26 gainers and 28 losers. N.E.M. Insurance Company led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 5.50 per share, followed by Omatek Ventures (+10%), Conoil (+9.94%) and MRS Oil Nigeria (+9.94%). On the losing side, John Holt came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.95% at NGN 1.72 per share, followed by Courteville Business Solutions (-9.8%), Chams (-9.76%) and Wapic Insurance (-8.7%). Geregu Power recorded the highest volume of 52.5 million traded shares, followed by NPF Microfinance Bank (50m), Access Holdings (46.2m) and Zenith Bank (28.7m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 13.79 (-0.02%) points to close at 55,806.71, representing a 1-week gain of 5.35%, a 4-week gain of 6.37%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 8.89%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.11%; +5.33% 1WK; +9.5% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.35%; +5.69% 1WK; +16.91% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+2.55%; +13.27% 1WK; +38.05% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.31%; +2.53% 1WK; +23.26% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.27%; +5.17% 1WK; +24.94% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.15%; +4.73% 1WK; +4.6% YTD).
