
Equities Market begins the week bullish as NGXASI appreciates by 0.23%

Nigeria’s Equities market closed positive on Monday as the NGX-ASI increased to 97,733.86 from 97,506.87 recorded at the close of the previous trading day, indicating a YTD return of +30.71%.
Market capitalization increased by N137.61 billion to N59.245 trillion from N59.107 trillion recorded at the previous trading day’s close. However, the market turnover decreased to N10.150 billion from N15.083 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 451,165,300 shares in 9,329 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 10,150,434,724.70, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, November 29), today’s data shows 12% decline in volume, 33% decline in turnover, but 23% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 59.3 trillion.
In the aggregate, 126 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 36 gainers and 25 losers. Lafarge Wapco led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 63.80 per share, followed by Africa Prudential (+10%), Abbey Mortgage Bank (+10%) and VFD Group (+9.88%).
On the losing side, E-Tranzact International came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 6.75 per share, followed by NCR Nigeria (-9.92%), FTN Cocoa Processors (-8.29%) and Honeywell Flour Mill (-5.92%). Japaul Gold and Ventures recorded the highest volume of 72 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (67.9m), Access Holdings (53.6m) and Lafarge Wapco (21.3m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 226.99 (0.23%) points to close at 97,733.86, representing a 1-week gain of 0.11%, a 4-week gain of 0.85%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 30.71%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.21%; +0.1% 1WK; +31.67% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+2.14%; +2.68% 1WK; +54.92% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.89%; +1.67% 1WK; +31.17% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.67%; +0.31% 1WK; +42.71% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.55%; +0.3% 1WK; +27.49% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.37%; -1.34% 1WK; +129.14% YTD).
