Equities Market begins the week positive as NGX-ASI appreciates by 0.49%
The Nigerian Equities Market closed positive on Tuesday as the key market indicator advanced by 250.75 bps amid positive market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.49% to close at 51,606.49 basis points as against the 0.35% recorded previously to close at 51,355.74 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records N136.54bn gain.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 541,963,071 shares in 6,404 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,056,056,389.98, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, April 20), today’s data shows 10% decline in volume but 49% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.1 trillion.
In the aggregate, 109 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 33 gainers and 12 losers. Japaul Gold and Ventures led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.33 per share, followed by Honeywell Flour Mill (+9.91%), Berger Paints (+9.87%) and Transcorp Nigeria (+9.8%).
On the losing side, Wapic Insurance came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 7.32% at NGN 0.38 per share, followed by Okomu Oil Palm (-6.54%), Nigerian Exchange Group (-4.89%) and RT Briscoe (-4%). Access Holdings recorded the highest volume of 217 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (111m), Fidelity Bank (30.7m) and Zenith Bank (27.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 250.75 (0.49%) points to close at 51,606.49, representing a 1-week loss of 0.57%, a 4-week loss of 6.06%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 0.69%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.66%; +0.08% 1WK; +1.02% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.29%; -0.07% 1WK; +2.86% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.3%; -1.27% 1WK; +4.51% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+1.11%; -1.14% 1WK; +10.22% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.85%; +2.3% 1WK; +5.12% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (+0.11%; -0.06% 1WK; +1.7% YTD).
