Equities market bullish as ASI increases by 0.25%
Nigeria’s Equities market closed positive on Thursday as the NGX-ASI increased to 103,180.14 from 102,926.40 recorded at the close of the previous trading day, indicating a YTD return of +0.25%.
Market capitalization increased by ₦154 billion to ₦62.918 billion from ₦62.763 trillion recorded at the previous trading day’s close. However, the market turnover decreased to ₦5.666 billion from ₦40.335billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 829,754,438 shares in 11,752 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,666,568,514.11, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, December 31), today’s data shows 90% improvement in volume, 86% decline in turnover, but 33% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 62.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 127 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 58 gainers and eight losers. AXA Mansard Insurance led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 9.02 per share, followed by NCR Nigeria (+10%), Cornerstone Insurance Company (+10%) and RT Briscoe (+10%).
On the losing side, Ellah Lakes came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 4.75% at NGN 3.01 per share, followed by National Salt Company (-4.31%), Computer Warehouse Group (-3.25%) and Fidelity Bank (-2.86%). Royal Exchange recorded the highest volume of 291 million traded shares, followed by Chams (63.7m), Aiico Insurance (58.6m) and Veritas Kapital Assurance (43.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 253.74 (0.25%) points to close at 103,180.14, representing a 1-week gain of 1.8%, a 4-week gain of 5.57%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 0.25%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.08%; +1.63% 1WK; +0.08% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+9.5%; +22.23% 1WK; +9.5% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.3%; +1.51% 1WK; +0.3% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.29%; +1.15% 1WK; +0.29% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.27%; -0.68% 1WK; +0.27% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.16%; +2.27% 1WK; +0.16% YTD).
