Equities Market bullish  as investors gain N6.20 bn

 Nigeria’s equities market closed positive on Thursday (27/06/2024) as the NGX-ASI increased to 99,396.23 from 99,385.44 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +32.93%.

 Market capitalization also increased by N6.20 billion to N56.227 trillion from N56.221 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N9.115 billion from N4.120 billion.

At the end of today’s trading sessio, a total of 529,369,235 shares in 7,616 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 10,493,156,787.96, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, June 26), today’s data shows 92% improvement in volume and 155% improvement in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.2 trillion.

In the aggregate, 121 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 33 gainers and 16 losers. Seplat Petroleum Development Co. led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 3,794.90 per share, followed by Cutix (+10%), Lasaco Assurance (+9.95%) and Computer Warehouse Group (+9.85%).

On the losing side, Daar Communications came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.93% at NGN 0.51 per share, followed by C&I Leasing (-8.54%), Consolidated Hallmark Holdings (-7.98%) and MTN Nigeria (-6.89%). Guaranty Trust Holding recorded the highest volume of 66.1 million traded shares, followed by UAC of Nigeria (46.4m), Access Holdings (39.7m) and Consolidated Hallmark Holdings (31.6m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 10.79 (0.01%) points to close at 99,396.23, representing a 1-week loss of 0.45%, a 4-week gain of 1.57%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 32.93%.

Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.03%; -0.43% 1WK; +31.98% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+5.71%; +5.84% 1WK; +38.12% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.12%; -0.84% 1WK; -8.13% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.76%; +0.51% 1WK; +14.93% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.24%; -0.23% 1WK; +41.29% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.18%; -0.24% 1WK; +35.38% YTD).
