Equities market cap appreciates by N47bn to close on bullish note
Equities market closed on a positive note amidst sell-offs and buy-interests as the benchmark All-Share Index (ASI) appreciated by 19 basis point, with Fidelity Bank recording the highest volume of 20.2 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (12m), United Bank for Africa (11.6m) and Transcorp Nigeria (11.2m).
The NGX ASI closed at 46,631.36 points, to reflect a growth of 0.19% from the previous trading day and a Year-to-Date (YTD) return of 9.16%. Meanwhile, the market capitalization grew by N47.42 billion.
At the close of market on Friday 8th April 2022, the stock exchange market value currently stands at N25.14 trillion at the end of the trading day.
At the end of the last weekday of trading, a total of 154,122,964 shares in 4,515 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 1,754,471,994.10, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, April 7), today’s data shows 37% decline in volume, 25% decline in turnover, and 4% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.1 trillion.
In the aggregate, 105 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 28 gainers and 16 losers. Ardova led the gainers with 9.87% share price appreciation closing at NGN 12.80 per share, followed by Meyer (+9.71%), Jaiz Bank (+7.81%) and FCMB Group (+7.17%).
On the losing side, Royal Exchange came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.52% at NGN 0.95 per share, followed by Computer Warehouse Group (-9.26%), Caverton Offshore Support Group (-7.35%) and Chams (-4.76%).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 87.95 (0.19%) points to close at 46,631.46, representing a 1-week loss of 0.45%, a 4-week loss of 1.7%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 9.17%.
