Equities market continues on bullish trend as NGX-ASI appreciates by 0.26%
Nigeria’s equities market closed positive Wednesday as the NGX-ASI increased to 98,227.50 from 97,972.33 recorded at the close of the previous trading day, indicating a YTD return of +31.37%.
Market capitalization increased by N166 billion to N59.533 trillion from N59.367 trillion recorded at the previous trading day’s close. Also, the market turnover increased to N8.449 billion from N6. 421 billion
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 370,517,716 shares in 10,026 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 8,448,985,616.68, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, November 19), today’s data shows 11% improvement in volume, 32% improvement in turnover, and 9% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 59.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 125 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 38 gainers and 27 losers. Austin Laz & Company led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 2.20 per share, followed by Tantalizers (+10%), Lafarge Wapco (+9.98%) and Honeywell Flour Mill (+9.95%). On the losing side, Northern Nigeria Flour Mills came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 33.75 per share, followed by RT Briscoe (-10%), Multiverse Mining & Exploration (-9.43%) and Daar Communications (-7.46%). Haldane McCall recorded the highest volume of 39.6 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (23m), United Bank for Africa (22.5m) and Lafarge Wapco (19.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 255.17 (0.26%) points to close at 98,227.50, representing a 1-week gain of 0.83%, a 4-week loss of 0.72%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 31.37%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.26%; +0.76% 1WK; +32.49% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+1.09%; +2.27% 1WK; +41.12% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.78%; +6.35% 1WK; +47.82% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.78%; +1.83% 1WK; +29.54% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.56%; +1.82% 1WK; +28.63% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+0.45%; +1.31% 1WK; +33.8% YTD).
