Equities Market ends bearish as NGX-ASI declined by -0.04%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Tuesday by -0.04% as the NGX-ASI decreased marginally to 65,309.65 from 65,336.80 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +27.43%.
Market capitalization decreased by N14.72 billion to N35.540 trillion from N35.555 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N4.472 billion from N3.892 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 317,808,298 shares in 6,376 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,471,664,416.89, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, August 7), today’s data shows 5% decline in volume, 15% improvement in turnover, but 8% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 35.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 120 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 29 gainers and 24 losers. Guinness Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 60.50 per share, followed by Glaxo Smithkline Consumer (+9.74%), Chellarams (+9.73%) and The Initiates (+9.72%).
On the losing side, Secure Electronic Technology came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 0.27 per share, followed by Northern Nigeria Flour Mills (-9.89%), John Holt (-9.52%) and Tantalizers (-8.33%).
Access Holdings recorded the highest volume of 49.4 million traded shares, followed by Sterling Bank (43.8m), Universal Insurance Company (28.9m) and FCMB Group (18.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 27.15 (-0.04%) points to close at 65,309.65, representing a 1-week gain of 1.74%, a 4-week loss of 0.55%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 27.43%.
