Equities Market gains N15.29bn as NGX-ASI increases by 0.04%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Wednesday by 0.04% as the NGX-ASI increased to 67,353.23 from 67,326.12 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +31.42%.
Market capitalization increased by N15.29 billion to N37,004 trillion from N36,988 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N4.69 billion from N5.17 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 397,560,768 shares in 6,165 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,699,318,833.25, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, October 17), today’s data shows 5% improvement in volume, 9% decline in turnover, and 8% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 37 trillion.
In the aggregate, 119 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 19 gainers and 18 losers. Guinea Insurance led the gainers with 9.09% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.24 per share, followed by Eterna (+6.86%), Unity Bank (+5.49%) and Jaiz Bank (+5.26%).
On the losing side, Computer Warehouse Group came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 8.55 per share, followed by RT Briscoe (-8.77%), Africa Prudential (-7.14%) and FTN Cocoa Processors (-6.29%). Wema Bank recorded the highest volume of 89 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (35.6m), United Bank for Africa (35.2m) and Fidelity Bank (33.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 27.11 (0.04%) points to close at 67,353.23, representing a 1-week gain of 0.38%, a 4-week loss of 0.77%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 31.42%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.2%; +0.28% 1WK; +41.5% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.05%; +0.21% 1WK; +34.4% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.74%; +5.57% 1WK; +67.78% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.27%; -1.11% 1WK; +58.77% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.22%; -0.05% 1WK; +98.25% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+0.09%; +0.21% 1WK; +62.5% YTD).
