Equities Market gains N535.74bn as NGX-ASI advances by 1.45%
Nigerian Equities Market closed positive on Monday by 1.45% as the NGX-ASI increased to 68,111.71 from 67,136.58 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +32.90%.
Market capitalization increased by N535.74 billion to N37.420 trillion from N36.885 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N8.257 billion from N5.178 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 430,393,434 shares in 7,656 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 8,257,922,012.73, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, October 27), today’s data shows 101% improvement in volume, 59% improvement in turnover, and 44% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 37.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 118 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 45 gainers and 16 losers. Northern Nigeria Flour Mills led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 18.15 per share, followed by Chellarams (+9.77%), UAC of Nigeria (+9.54%) and Nigerian Aviation Handling Co. (+9.45%).
On the losing side, Meyer came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.87% at NGN 2.74 per share, followed by Abbey Mortgage Bank (-9.71%), Regency Alliance Insurance (-8.33%) and RT Briscoe (-6%).
Universal Insurance Company recorded the highest volume of 94.8 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (51.3m), Custodian & Allied (33.2m) and Transcorp Nigeria (32.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 975.13 (1.45%) points to close at 68,111.71, representing a 1-week gain of 1.85%, a 4-week gain of 2.61%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 32.9%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+2.49%; +2.65% 1WK; +43.1% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+1.43%; +1.82% 1WK; +35.93% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+2.99%; +2.84% 1WK; +17.95% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+2.5%; +2.38% 1WK; +40.78% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1.94%; +1.66% 1WK; +63.3% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (+1.2%; +1.8% 1WK; +69.99% YTD).
