Equities Market gains N63.52bn as NGX-ASI advances by 0.17%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Wednesday by 0.17% as the NGX-ASI increased to 67,100.49 from 66,984.62 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +30.93%.
Market capitalization increased by N63.52 billion to N36.86 trillion from N36.80 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N4.4 billion from N7.7 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 410,320,989 shares in 5,637 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,456,776,970.30, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, October 10), today’s data shows 59% improvement in volume, 43% decline in turnover, and 13% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 119 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 18 gainers and 17 losers. Thomas Wyatt Nigeria led the gainers with 9.81% share price appreciation closing at NGN 2.35 per share, followed by Daar Communications (+9.52%), Cornerstone Insurance Company (+6.45%) and Transcorp Nigeria (+5.41%).
On the losing side, Omatek Ventures came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.33% at NGN 0.44 per share, followed by Oando (-8.08%), Africa Prudential (-7.8%) and Caverton Offshore Support Group (-6.92%). Neimeth International Pharma recorded the highest volume of 163 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (39m), Zenith Bank (32.3m) and Fidelity Bank (23.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 115.87 (0.17%) points to close at 67,100.49, representing a 1-week gain of 0.93%, a 4-week loss of 0.29%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 30.93%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.3%; +1.02% 1WK; +34.12% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.09%; -1.86% 1WK; +41.1% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.58%; +0.46% 1WK; +60.56% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.95%; +0.05% 1WK; +14.77% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.33%; +4.05% 1WK; +34.06% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+0.21%; +1.74% 1WK; +62.16% YTD).
