Equities Market loses  N36.39bn as NGX-ASI declines by 0.10%

 Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Friday by 0.10% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 66,382.14 from 66,448.63 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +29.52%.

The market performance for the week ended Friday, September 29, 2023 decreased by 1.40% to 66,382.14 from 67,324.59 recorded at the beginning of the week.

Market capitalization decreased by N36.39 billion to N36.3314 trillion from N36.3678 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N4.53 billion from N3.41 billion.

At the end of the last weekday of trading, a total of 292,943,362 shares in 6,323 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,531,640,470.74, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, September 28), today’s data shows 7% improvement in volume, 33% improvement in turnover, but 7% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.3 trillion.

In the aggregate, 115 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 30 gainers and 23 losers. Consolidated Hallmark Insurance led the gainers with 9.57% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.26 per share, followed by Computer Warehouse Group (+9.49%), Nigerian Exchange Group (+8.93%) and RT Briscoe (+8.89%).

On the losing side, BUA Cement came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 85.50 per share, followed by Tripple Gee & Co. (-9.96%), Oando (-9.77%) and John Holt (-9.76%). Fidelity Bank recorded the highest volume of 48.6 million traded shares, followed by Universal Insurance Company (28.1m), Wema Bank (26.7m) and Access Holdings (21m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 66.49 (-0.10%) points to close at 66,382.14, representing a 1-week loss of 2.77%, a 4-week loss of 0.25%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 29.52%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.59%; -3.22% 1WK; +43.26% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-0.08%; -2.78% 1WK; +32.54% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+2.26%; +1.7% 1WK; +92.28% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.4%; -3.46% 1WK; +59.57% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.96%; -3.69% 1WK; +43.67% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; -0.97% 1WK; +97.63% YTD).
