Equities Market loses N89.42bn as NGX-ASI declines by 0.24%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Monday by 0.24% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 67,037.93 from 67,200.69 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +30.80%.
Market capitalization decreased by N89.42 billion to N36.830 trillion from N36.919 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N3.6 billion from N4.1 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 216,070,065 shares in 5,965 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,551,200,821.29, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, October 13), today’s data shows 4% decline in volume, 15% decline in turnover, but 18% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.8 trillion.
In the aggregate, 121 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 18 gainers and 23 losers.
Royal Exchange led the gainers with 8.51% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.51 per share, followed by Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (+6.96%), National Salt Company (+5.45%) and Dangote Sugar Refinery (+3.13%).
On the losing side, Stanbic IBTC Holdings came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 72.00 per share, followed by Sovereign Trust Insurance (-10%), Okomu Oil Palm (-9.96%) and Oando (-9.24%).
United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 32.6 million traded shares, followed by Fidelity Bank (29m), Aiico Insurance (15.6m) and Dangote Sugar Refinery (10.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 162.76 (-0.24%) points to close at 67,037.93, representing a 1-week loss of 0.09%, a 4-week loss of 0.46%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 30.8%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.18%; -0.09% 1WK; +33.85% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-1.11%; -1.78% 1WK; +39.97% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.94%; +0.59% 1WK; +62.1% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.39%; +0.99% 1WK; +96.03% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.16%; +0.2% 1WK; +36.86% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (-0.06%; +0.89% 1WK; +14.7% YTD).
