Equities Market losses N64.12bn as NGX-ASI declines by 0.17%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Tuesday by 0.17% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 66,984.62 from 67,101.33 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +30.70%.
Market capitalization decreased by N64.12 billion to N36.80 trillion from N36.86 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N7.8 billion from N3.46 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 257,423,368 shares in 6,498 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 7,799,926,046.14, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, October 9), today’s data shows 4% decline in volume, 125% improvement in turnover, but 6% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.8 trillion.
In the aggregate, 119 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 13 gainers and 27 losers. McNichols led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.66 per share, followed by Capital Hotel (+9.82%), Chams (+9.37%) and Associated Bus Company (+8.82%).
On the losing side, John Holt came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 1.44 per share, followed by Presco (-9.54%), Daar Communications (-8.7%) and Deap Capital Management & Trust (-7.41%). Fidelity Bank recorded the highest volume of 53.4 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (31.1m), United Bank for Africa (26.8m) and Oando (13.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 116.71 (-0.17%) points to close at 66,984.62, representing a 1-week gain of 0.32%, a 4-week loss of 1.7%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 30.7%.
