Equities Market maintains bearish trend as ASI dipped by 0.18%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Thursday by 0.18% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 67,084.95 from 67,206.16 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +30.89%.
Market capitalization decreased by N66.59 billion to N 36,856, trillion from N36,923 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N5.110 billion from N4.410 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 267,653,980 shares in 5,205 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,110,970,504.93, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, October 25), today’s data shows 19% decline in volume, 16% improvement in turnover, but 13% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 117 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 12 gainers and 29 losers. McNichols led the gainers with 8.93% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.61 per share, followed by UAC of Nigeria (+6.09%), Oando (+4.07%) and Chams (+3.65%).
On the losing side, Secure Electronic Technology came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 0.27 per share, followed by Computer Warehouse Group (-9.94%), Thomas Wyatt Nigeria (-9.84%) and International Breweries (-9.78%). Fidelity Bank recorded the highest volume of 39.8 million traded shares, followed by Chams (23.5m), Access Holdings (20.6m) and United Bank for Africa (19m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 121.21 (-0.18%) points to close at 67,084.95, representing a 1-week loss of 0.02%, a 4-week gain of 0.65%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 30.89%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.1%; +0.11% 1WK; +34.06% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.27%; -0.4% 1WK; +39.66% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.12%; -0.35% 1WK; +94.79% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; -0.24% 1WK; +97.78% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0%; -0.09% 1WK; +14.58% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (-0.13%; +0.03% 1WK; +37.38% YTD).
