Equities Market opens the week bullish as capitalization increases by N9Bn.
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Monday as the NGX-ASI increased by 0.03% to close at 52,231.29 compared to 52,214.62 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +1.91%.
Similarly, the market capitalization increased by N9.00 billion to N28.440 trillion from N28.431 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N5.60 billion from N10.98 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 626,389,579 shares in 6,033 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,599,503,882.06, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, May 12), today’s data shows 56% decline in volume, 49% decline in turnover, but 9% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 121 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 22 gainers and 21 losers.
Oando led the gainers with 9.91% share price appreciation closing at NGN 6.10 per share, followed by NCR Nigeria (+9.77%), Transcorp Nigeria (+9.65%) and Ikeja Hotel (+9.62%).
On the losing side, Computer Warehouse Group came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.66% at NGN 1.87 per share, followed by N.E.M. Insurance Company (-9.45%), Royal Exchange (-7.41%) and Cutix (-4.13%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 191 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (125m), FBN Holdings (79.7m) and United Bank for Africa (39.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 16.67 (0.03%) points to close at 52,231.29, representing a 1-week loss of 0.66%, a 4-week gain of 0.53%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 1.91%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.18%; +0.01% 1WK; +2.36% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.07%; +0.14% 1WK; +4.99% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.42%; +0.82% 1WK; +10.16% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.11%; +0.26% 1WK; +12.05% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.03%; +0.36% 1WK; +26.18% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (+0.02%; -3.37% 1WK; -1.48% YTD).
