Equities Market rebounds as NGXASI appreciates by 0.99%

Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Thursday by 0.99% as the NGX-ASI increased to 74,502.58 from 73,768.64 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +45.37%.
Market capitalization increased by N401.63 billion to N40.769 trillion from N40.367 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, also the market turnover decreased to N5.66 billion from N12.93 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 384,576,414 shares in 8,336 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,666,879,279.62, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, December 27), today’s data shows 11% decline in volume, 56% decline in turnover, and 6% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 40.8 trillion.
In the aggregate, 122 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 36 gainers and 27 losers. Ikeja Hotel led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 5.50 per share, followed by Multiverse Mining & Exploration (+9.96%), Julius Berger Nigeria (+9.94%) and Industrial & Medical Gases (+9.87%).
On the losing side, UAC of Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 12.15 per share, followed by John Holt (-9.73%), Deap Capital Management & Trust (-9.38%) and RT Briscoe (-8.96%). Jaiz Bank recorded the highest volume of 49.4 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (27.9m), Access Holdings (23.4m) and Veritas Kapital Assurance (21.7m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 733.94 (0.99%) points to close at 74,502.58, representing a 1-week gain of 2.8%, a 4-week gain of 4.87%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 45.37%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.95%; +1.83% 1WK; +53.01% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.9%; +3.84% 1WK; +50.74% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+2.1%; +2.47% 1WK; +52.67% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+2.07%; +7.96% 1WK; +79.37% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1.25%; +3.43% 1WK; +79.2% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (+1.1%; +0.08% 1WK; +12.84% YTD).
