Equities Market remains on bearish note as NGX-ASI decreases by 1.16%.
The Equity Market closed trading activities for Tuesday negative as the NGX-ASI declined by 1.16% to close at 53,124.63 compared to 53,750.77 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +3.66%.
Similarly, the market capitalization decreased by N341.09 billion to N28.94 trillion from N29.28 trillion the previous trading day, While the market turnover decreased to N2.05 billion from N4.34 billion
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 202,850,185 shares in 3,071 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,052,956,191.66, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, March 27), today’s data shows 101% improvement in volume, 53% decline in turnover, and 6% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 102 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 16 gainers and 10 losers. PZ Cussons Nigeria led the gainers with 9.62% share price appreciation closing at NGN 11.40 per share, followed by International Energy Insurance (+9.24%), Multiverse Mining & Exploration (+8.72%) and FTN Cocoa Processors (+7.69%).
On the losing side, Chams came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8% at NGN 0.23 per share, followed by UAC of Nigeria (-5.76%), MTN Nigeria (-4.29%) and Dangote Cement (-4.17%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 61.5 million traded shares, followed by Fidelity Bank (27m), Custodian & Allied (20m) and Sterling Bank (18.7m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) declined 626.14 (-1.16%) points to close at 53,124.63, representing a 1-week loss of 3.24%, a 4-week loss of 4.81%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 3.66%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (-1.02%; -1.37% 1WK; +4.54% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-1.25%; -3.35% 1WK; +2.86% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+1.5%; +0.44% 1WK; +19.04% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.46%; -1.44% 1WK; +0.1% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.39%; -2.62% 1WK; +3% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (+0.27%; -0.67% 1WK; +4.71% YTD).
