
Equities market sustained bullish trend as NGX-ASI appreciates by 0.37%

Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Thursday, extending the gains recorded in the previous session as investors maintained a bullish streak on NESTLE (+10.00%), BETAGLAS (+9.98%), SKYAVN (+9.75%), NNFM (+9.49%), TRANSCOHOT (+6.19%), OKOMUOIL (+3.42%), ACCESSCORP (+2.56%), NASCON (+1.30%), TRANSCORP (+0.91%), STANBIC (+0.73%), LAFARGE (+0.32%), and 23 others.
The All-Share Index appreciated by 37 basis points to close at 109,467.64 points, from 109,059.33 points on Wednesday, as investors gained N256.62bn. Market capitalisation increased to N68.80trn, while the year-to-date return climbed to 6.36%.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 729,876,083 shares in 14,743 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 13,879,116,551.20, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, May 14), today’s data shows 37% improvement in volume but 30% decline in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 68.8 trillion.
In the aggregate, 128 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 36 gainers and 23 losers. Nestle Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1,331.00 per share, followed by Honeywell Flour Mill (+10%), Beta Glass Company (+9.98%) and NPF Microfinance Bank (+9.81%). On the losing side, Multiverse Mining & Exploration came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.64% at NGN 8.90 per share, followed by Wapic Insurance (-4.74%), Lasaco Assurance (-4.53%) and May & Baker Nigeria (-3.82%). FCMB Group recorded the highest volume of 273 million traded shares, followed by Fidelity Bank (43.5m), Caverton Offshore Support Group (35.1m) and Aiico Insurance (33.9m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 408.31 (0.37%) points to close at 109,467.64, representing a 1-week gain of 0.22%, a 4-week gain of 4.72%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 6.36%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.39%; +0.09% 1WK; +6.08% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+1.16%; +3.54% 1WK; +29% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.49%; +1.01% 1WK; +7.53% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.29%; +1.13% 1WK; +14.82% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.2%; +0.73% 1WK; +7.76% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (+0.18%; -0.48% 1WK; -4.98% YTD).
