
Equity investors gain N13.78bn as NGX-ASI appreciates by 0.02%


Nigeria’s equities market maintained bullish momentum for the week’s trading sessions. Friday’s gain was driven by sustained buying interest in NESTLE (+0.56%), UCAP (+2.49), GTCO (+0.50%), Fidelity (+3.03%), and Oando (+8.26%).
The market performance for the week increased by 1.73% to 99,300.38 from 97,612.51 recorded at the beginning of the week.

The All-Share Index (NGXASI) rose 0.02% to 99,300.38 points, extending Thursday’s gain of 0.46% at 99,276.03 points. As such, investors gained N13.78bn as Market Capitalisation rose to N56.17trn, and year-to-date return stood at 32.80%.
At the end of the last weekday of trading , a total of 433,997,592 shares in 8,525 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 8,575,279,947.31, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, May 30), today’s data shows 40% improvement in volume, 58% improvement in turnover, and 21% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.2 trillion.
In the aggregate, 122 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 23 gainers and 15 losers. UPDC led the gainers with 9.84% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.34 per share, followed by International Energy Insurance (+9.74%), RT Briscoe (+9.09%) and Oando (+8.26%).
On the losing side, C&I Leasing came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 2.97 per share, followed by FTN Cocoa Processors (-8.33%), Livestock Feeds (-6.78%) and Ellah Lakes (-5.36%). Zenith Bank recorded the highest volume of 111 million traded shares, followed by Aiico Insurance (59.1m), Access Holdings (43.4m) and Fidelity Bank (36.2m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 24.35 (0.02%) points to close at 99,300.38, representing a 1-week gain of 1.73%, a 4-week loss of 0.29%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 32.8%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.01%; +1.83% 1WK; +31.76% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+2.26%; +3.88% 1WK; +14.17% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.11%; +1.21% 1WK; +33.89% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.03%; +2.04% 1WK; +39.5% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.01%; +5.27% 1WK; +11.1% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (-0%; -0.13% 1WK; +73.08% YTD).
