Equity investors gain N240.67bn as NGX-ASI appreciates by 0.42%

Nigeria’s equities market closed positive on Wednesday, as the NGX-ASI increased to 98,987.42 from 98,568.59 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +32.38%.

Market capitalization increased by N240.67 billion to N56.882 trillion from N56.641 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. The market turnover also increased to N12.575 billion from N11.781 billion.

At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 603,301,607 shares in 9,723 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 12,575,456,552.00, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, September 24), today’s data shows 21% decline in volume, 7% improvement in turnover, but 20% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.9 trillion.

In the aggregate, 121 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 31 gainers and 24 losers. Seplat Petroleum Development Co. led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 4,103.10 per share, followed by Flour Mills Nigeria (+10%), Ellah Lakes (+9.97%) and Honeywell Flour Mill (+9.87%).
On the losing side, Multiverse Mining & Exploration came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.9% at NGN 9.10 per share, followed by Caverton Offshore Support Group (-9.86%), AXA Mansard Insurance (-6.78%) and FBN Holdings (-6.45%). Fidelity Bank recorded the highest volume of 122 million traded shares, followed by FBN Holdings (109m), Transcorp Nigeria (82.6m) and United Bank for Africa (41.9m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 418.83 (0.42%) points to close at 98,987.42, representing a 1-week gain of 0.77%, a 4-week gain of 2.57%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 32.38%.

Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.39%; +1.01% 1WK; +31.98% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+3.27%; +3.36% 1WK; +90.46% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.97%; +1.59% 1WK; +26.13% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.5%; -0.18% 1WK; +40.41% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.39%; +2.51% 1WK; +24.01% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (+0.03%; -0.06% 1WK; +41.91% YTD).
