Equity investors gain N259bn as NGX-ASI increases by 0.43%
Nigeria’s Equities market closed positive on Wednesday as the NGX-ASI increased to 100,477.46 from 100,050.94 recorded at the close of the previous trading day, indicating a YTD return of +34.38%.
Market capitalization increased by N259 billion to N60.908 billion from N60.650 trillion recorded at the previous trading day’s close. However, the market turnover decreased to N9.199 billion from N22.513 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 389,701,474 shares in 9,573 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 9,199,213,024.16, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, December 17), today’s data shows 18% decline in volume and 57% decline in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 60.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 123 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 42 gainers and 18 losers. MRS Oil Nigeria led the gainers with 9.99% share price appreciation closing at NGN 159.70 per share, followed by Learn Africa (+9.97%), International Energy Insurance (+9.77%) and Wapic Insurance (+9.74%).
On the losing side, Africa Prudential came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 14.40 per share, followed by John Holt (-9.96%), Guinea Insurance (-8.33%) and Deap Capital Management & Trust (-5.26%). Sterling Bank recorded the highest volume of 43.6 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (26.2m), Fidelity Bank (25.6m) and Universal Insurance Company (18.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 426.52 (0.43%) points to close at 100,477.46, representing a 1-week gain of 2%, a 4-week gain of 2.29%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 34.38%.
