Equity investors gain N271.61bn as NGX-ASI advances by 0.49%
Nigeria’s equities market closed positive on Tuesday as the NGX-ASI increased to 96,510.13 from 96,037.28 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +29.07%.
Market capitalization increased by N271.61 billion to N55.437 trillion from N55.166 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. The market turnover increased to N5.635 billion from N3.884 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 443,156,566 shares in 8,493 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,635,171,519.90, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, August 26), today’s data shows 13% improvement in volume, 45% improvement in turnover, but 8% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 120 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 49 gainers and 14 losers. Total Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 619.30 per share, followed by Julius Berger Nigeria (+10%), John Holt (+10%) and Neimeth International Pharma (+10%). On the losing side, University Press came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.58% at NGN 2.17 per share, followed by Cutix (-6.25%), Vitafoam Nigeria (-5.17%) and Transcorp Nigeria (-5.08%). Veritas Kapital Assurance recorded the highest volume of 83.1 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (56m), Universal Insurance Company (29.1m) and FBN Holdings (23.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 472.85 (0.49%) points to close at 96,510.13, representing a 1-week gain of 0.64%, a 4-week loss of 1.35%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 29.07%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.49%; +1.19% 1WK; +28.65% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+4.14%; +8.02% 1WK; +72.49% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.45%; +0.78% 1WK; -5.32% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.3%; +4.81% 1WK; +27.63% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.82%; +1.26% 1WK; +16.86% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.51%; +0.74% 1WK; +36.72% YTD).
