
Equity investors gain N294.12bn as NGX-ASI advances by 0.53%


Nigeria’s equities market closed positive on Tuesday by 0.53% as the NGX-ASI increased to 98,383.04 from 97,863.34 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +31.57%
Market capitalization increased by N294.12 billion to N55.653 trillion from N55.359 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, and the market turnover increased to N6.584 billion from N5.940 billion.

At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 559,608,966 shares in 7,990 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 6,584,605,080.79, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, May 27), today’s data shows 52% improvement in volume and 11% improvement in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 125 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 28 gainers and 14 losers. Dangote Sugar Refinery led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 42.90 per share, followed by National Salt Company (+9.88%), Morison Industries (+9.88%) and PZ Cussons Nigeria (+9.6%).
On the losing side, Sovereign Trust Insurance came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.52% at NGN 0.38 per share, followed by Universal Insurance Company (-8.33%), The Initiates (-5%) and Lafarge Wapco (-4.86%). Abbey Mortgage Bank recorded the highest volume of 278 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (81.9m), FBN Holdings (31.5m) and United Bank for Africa (22m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 519.70 (0.53%) points to close at 98,383.04, representing a 1-week gain of 0.1%, a 4-week gain of 0.51%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 31.57%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.62%; +0.13% 1WK; +30.57% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+2.39%; -1.48% 1WK; -14.26% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+1.88%; +3.66% 1WK; +17.07% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1.68%; +0.32% 1WK; +8.53% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+1.11%; +0.81% 1WK; +38.43% YTD), and NGX Insurance Index (+0.74%; -3.03% 1WK; +9.92% YTD).
