Equity investors gain N3.42trn as NGXASI increases by 0.62%
Nigeria’s equities market closed positive on Monday as the NGX-ASI increased to 98,215.13 from 97,606.63 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +31.35%.
Market capitalization increased by N3,42 trillion billion to N59.510 trillion from N56.088 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. The market turnover also increased to N19.708 billion from N5.599 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading , a total of 304,970,417 shares in 8,083 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 19,707,798,821.97, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, October 11), today’s data shows 252% improvement in turnover and 16% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 59.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 118 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 20 gainers and 31 losers. Wapic Insurance led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.88 per share, followed by The Initiates (+9.74%), Consolidated Hallmark Holdings (+9.35%) and MeCure Industries (+8.91%).
On the losing side, Vitafoam Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.09% at NGN 20.00 per share, followed by Tantalizers (-8.33%), International Energy Insurance (-6.37%) and Secure Electronic Technology (-6.15%). Cutix recorded the highest volume of 37.9 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (34.1m), United Bank for Africa (33.9m) and Chams (18.8m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 608.50 (0.62%) points to close at 98,215.13, representing a 1-week gain of 0.52%, a 4-week gain of 1.23%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 31.35%.
