Equity investors gain N36.67bn as NGX-ASI appreciates by 0.07%
Nigeria’s equities market closed positive on Monday as the NGX-ASI increased to 96,037.28 from 95,973.45 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +28.44%.
Market capitalization increased by N36.67 billion to N55.166 trillion from N55.129 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. The market turnover decreased to N3.884 billion from N4.609 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading , a total of 390,512,829 shares in 9,242 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,884,295,555.52, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, August 23), today’s data shows 19% improvement in volume, 16% decline in turnover, but 26% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.2 trillion.
In the aggregate, 122 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 28 gainers and 18 losers. Eterna led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 23.10 per share, followed by Okomu Oil Palm (+9.99%), RT Briscoe (+9.96%) and Oando (+9.93%). On the losing side, Transcorp Power came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.99% at NGN 335.20 per share, followed by Abbey Mortgage Bank (-9.69%), United Capital (-8.35%) and University Press (-5.51%). Veritas Kapital Assurance recorded the highest volume of 67.3 million traded shares, followed by Japaul Gold and Ventures (23.9m), FCMB Group (20.5m) and Prestige Assurance Company (20.2m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 63.83 (0.07%) points to close at 96,037.28, representing a 1-week gain of 0.27%, a 4-week loss of 2.13%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 28.44%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.56%; +0.71% 1WK; +28.02% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+1.83%; +1.06% 1WK; +38.22% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.05%; +3.7% 1WK; +25.99% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.73%; +4.17% 1WK; +65.63% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.17%; +0.39% 1WK; +36.03% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (+0.01%; +0.03% 1WK; +42.02% YTD).
