Equity investors gain N378.54bn as NGXASI appreciates by 0.64 %
Nigeria’s equities market closed positive on Monday as the NGX-ASI increased to 98,694.80 from 98,070.23 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +31.99%.
The market capitalization increased by N378.43 billion to N59.803 trillion from N59.425 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day while the market turnover also increased to N27.568 billion from N11.968 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 405,022,661 shares in 8,281 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 27,568,624,368.81, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, October 18), today’s data shows 13% improvement in volume, 130% improvement in turnover, and 23% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 59.8 trillion.
In the aggregate, 125 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 31 gainers and 18 losers. Ikeja Hotel led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 7.70 per share, followed by Daar Communications (+10%), Seplat Petroleum Development Co. (+9.99%) and PZ Cussons Nigeria (+9.9%).
On the losing side, Regency Alliance Insurance came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.2% at NGN 0.56 per share, followed by Secure Electronic Technology (-6.45%), C&I Leasing (-5.01%) and Omatek Ventures (-4.55%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 138 million traded shares, followed by Sterling Bank (39.6m), Access Holdings (29.9m) and Nigerian Breweries (23.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 620.33 (0.63%) points to close at 98,690.61, representing a 1-week gain of 0.48%, a 4-week gain of 0.45%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 31.99%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.61%; +0.6% 1WK; +31.78% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+4.1%; +5.24% 1WK; +118.86% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+1.48%; +1.68% 1WK; +24.91% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1.19%; +1.58% 1WK; +27.19% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.07%; -0.46% 1WK; +35.8% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (+0.96%; +0.07% 1WK; +4.24% YTD).
