Equity investors gain N466.73bn as NGX-ASI advances by 0.84%

Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive  on  Thursday  by 0.84% as the NGX-ASI increased to 98,156.71 from 97,343.42 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +31.27%

 Market capitalization increased by N466.73 billion to N55,525.12 trillion from N55,058.39 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N8.925 billion from N7.142 billion.

At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 295,448,685 shares in 7,294 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 7,553,245,861.10, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, May 15), today’s data shows 2% improvement in volume and 19% improvement in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.5 trillion.

In the aggregate, 124 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 15 gainers and 24 losers. Royal Exchange led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.55 per share, followed by Guinea Insurance (+10%), Airtel Africa (+8.97%) and International Energy Insurance (+7.84%).

On the losing side, Eterna came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.89% at NGN 12.30 per share, followed by FCMB Group (-8.28%), Omatek Ventures (-6.94%) and Unity Bank (-5.88%). Nigerian Breweries recorded the highest volume of 83.7 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (26.1m), Access Holdings (24.2m) and Guaranty Trust Holding (22.9m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 813.29 (0.84%) points to close at 98,156.71, representing a 1-week loss of 0.1%, a 4-week loss of 1.75%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 31.27%.

Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.91%; -0.07% 1WK; +30.31% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+1.72%; +1.11% 1WK; +33.24% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.51%; -3.43% 1WK; +16.68% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0%; +0.03% 1WK; +72.99% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.06%; -1.68% 1WK; +36.14% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (-0.36%; -6.54% 1WK; +13.24% YTD).
