Equity investors gain N74.38bn as NGX-ASI appreciates 0.13%
Nigeria’s equities market closed positive on Friday as the NGX-ASI increased to 97,606.63 from 97,477.19 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +30.54%.
The market performance for the week increased by 0.09% to 97,606.63 from 97,520.54 recorded at the beginning of the week.
Similarly, the market capitalization increased by N74.38billion to N56.088 trillion from N56.013 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. The market turnover also increased to N5.599 billion from N4.653 billion.
At the end of the last weekday of trading, a total of 304,430,135 shares in 6,950 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,599,374,821.26, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, October 10), today’s data shows 10% improvement in volume, 20% improvement in turnover, but 2% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.1 trillion.
In the aggregate, 121 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 31 gainers and 19 losers. Sterling Bank led the gainers with 9.45% share price appreciation closing at NGN 4.98 per share, followed by Consolidated Hallmark Holdings (+9.45%), MeCure Industries (+9.19%) and Regency Alliance Insurance (+9.09%). On the losing side, Deap Capital Management & Trust came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.93% at NGN 1.36 per share, followed by N.E.M. Insurance Company (-9.71%), Daar Communications (-9.52%) and Tantalizers (-9.09%). Access Holdings recorded the highest volume of 68.3 million traded shares, followed by Fidelity Bank (43.2m), United Bank for Africa (25.4m) and Zenith Bank (19.7m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 129.44 (0.13%) points to close at 97,606.63, representing a 1-week gain of 0.09%, a 4-week gain of 0.92%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 30.54%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.17%; +0.61% 1WK; +30.91% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.06%; +0.47% 1WK; +3.79% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.59%; +0.8% 1WK; +24.91% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.22%; +0.75% 1WK; +22.8% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.08%; -0.28% 1WK; +39.02% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (+0.01%; -0.13% 1WK; +31.99% YTD).
