Equity investors gain N83.47bn as NGXASI appreciates by 0.14%
Nigeria’s equities market closed positive on Monday as the NGX-ASI increased to 97,373.94 from 97,236.19 recorded at the close of the previous trading day, indicating a YTD return of +30.22%.
Market capitalization increased by N83.47 billion to N59.004 trillion from N58.920 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. Also, The market turnover however decreased to N7.518 billion from N9.129 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading , a total of 297,829,975 shares in 9,902 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 7,517,554,221.09, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, November 8), today’s data shows 38% decline in volume, 17% decline in turnover, but 10% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 59 trillion.
In the aggregate, 127 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 24 gainers and 28 losers. Eunisell Interlinked led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 9.02 per share, followed by Aradel Holdings (+9.99%), John Holt (+9.98%) and Deap Capital Management & Trust (+9.35%).
On the losing side, United Capital came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.78% at NGN 16.15 per share, followed by Sovereign Trust Insurance (-7.25%), Prestige Assurance Company (-6.67%) and Consolidated Hallmark Holdings (-5.88%). Sterling Bank recorded the highest volume of 36.1 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (33.5m), Access Holdings (24.6m) and Flour Mills Nigeria (15m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 137.75 (0.14%) points to close at 97,373.94, representing a 1-week gain of 0.48%, a 4-week loss of 0.86%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 30.22%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.23%; -0.38% 1WK; +31.17% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.32%; +0.62% 1WK; +37.3% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.23%; +1.1% 1WK; +39.7% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.16%; +5.77% 1WK; +133.43% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.03%; -0.05% 1WK; +27.2% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.1%; -0.29% 1WK; +38.65% YTD).
