Equity investors gain N96.79bn as NGXASI increases by 0.18%
Nigerian Equities market closed positive on Wednesday as the NGX-ASI increased to 97,098.98 from 96,928.52 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +29.86%.
Market capitalization also increased by N96.78 billion to N55.130 trillion from N55.033 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. The market turnover also increased to N12.769 billion from N6.735 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 636,501,134 shares in 9,744 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 12,769,638,605.43, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, August 6), today’s data shows 42% improvement in volume, 90% improvement in turnover, and 4% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.1 trillion.
In the aggregate, 119 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 27 gainers and 23 losers. Red Star Express led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 4.18 per share, followed by Oando (+9.98%), United Capital (+9.9%) and RT Briscoe (+9.9%).
On the losing side, Neimeth International Pharma came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 7.69% at NGN 1.80 per share, followed by Honeywell Flour Mill (-6.1%), Sovereign Trust Insurance (-5.56%) and Deap Capital Management & Trust (-4%). Access Holdings recorded the highest volume of 113 million traded shares, followed by United Capital (74.4m), Guaranty Trust Holding (74.3m) and Veritas Kapital Assurance (55.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 170.46 (0.18%) points to close at 97,098.98, representing a 1-week loss of 0.69%, a 4-week loss of 2.71%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 29.86%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.11%; -0.98% 1WK; +28.26% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.97%; +3.16% 1WK; -7.85% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.81%; +1.88% 1WK; +20.53% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.4%; +0.86% 1WK; +13.21% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.33%; -1.14% 1WK; +24.91% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.11%; +2.43% 1WK; +49.33% YTD).
