Equity investors lose N111.76bn as ASI dips marginally by 0.07%
Nigeria’s Equities market closed negative Monday , as the NGX-ASI decreased to 98,132.15 from 98,201.49 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +31.24%.
Market capitalization decreased by N111.77 billion to N55.717 trillion from N55.605 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. The market turnover also decreased to N8.707 billion from N21.597 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading , a total of 379,132,593 shares in 10,096 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 8,706,770,042.36, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, July 26), today’s data shows 66% decline in volume, 60% decline in turnover, but 11% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.6 trillion.
In the aggregate, 120 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 22 gainers and 21 losers. Africa Prudential led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 10.45 per share, followed by Cutix (+9.9%), Eterna (+9.88%) and Oando (+9.83%). On the losing side, Caverton Offshore Support Group came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 1.35 per share, followed by Wapic Insurance (-9.3%), Associated Bus Company (-9.09%) and Neimeth International Pharma (-7.65%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 69.1 million traded shares, followed by FBN Holdings (24.9m), Access Holdings (23.9m) and Universal Insurance Company (22.2m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 69.34 (-0.07%) points to close at 98,132.15, representing a 1-week loss of 2.42%, a 4-week loss of 1.89%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 31.24%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.18%; -2.56% 1WK; +30.05% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+1.32%; +0.79% 1WK; +45.22% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.15%; -0.02% 1WK; +17.57% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.08%; -0.01% 1WK; +37.44% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.01%; -5.9% 1WK; +63.5% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.07%; -0.69% 1WK; +38.57% YTD)
