Equity investors lose N133.59bn as NGXASI declines by 0.24%
Nigeria’s equities market closed negative on Thursday as the NGX-ASI decreased to 100,065.68 from 100,299.48 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +31.68%.
Market capitalization also decreased by N133.47billion to N56,604 trillion from N56.737 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, the market turnover increased to N12.561 billion from N4.752 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 863,583,360 shares in 7,931 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 12,561,863,714.37, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, July 3), today’s data shows 152% improvement in volume, 164% improvement in turnover, and 4% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.6 trillion.
In the aggregate, 123 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 24 gainers and 25 losers. Oando led the gainers with 9.93% share price appreciation closing at NGN 15.50 per share, followed by Conoil (+9.52%), Veritas Kapital Assurance (+9.38%) and Neimeth International Pharma (+8.61%). On the losing side, Daar Communications came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.33% at NGN 0.44 per share, followed by UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust (-8.26%), Guinea Insurance (-7.69%) and University Press (-6.67%). Fidelity Bank recorded the highest volume of 539 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (59.4m), Veritas Kapital Assurance (40.4m) and United Bank for Africa (36m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 236.16 (-0.24%) points to close at 100,063.32, representing a 1-week gain of 0.67%, a 4-week gain of 0.95%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 33.82%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.29%; +0.73% 1WK; +32.94% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+2.12%; +5.35% 1WK; -3.21% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+1.43%; +1.4% 1WK; +40.05% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.24%; +1.93% 1WK; +17.14% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.15%; +4.95% 1WK; +25.85% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.13%; +0.4% 1WK; +35.92% YTD).
