Equity investors lose N148 bn as NGXASI declines by 0.19%
Nigeria’s equities market closed negative on Thursday as the NGX-ASI decreased to 97,233.07 from 97,477.80 recorded at the close of the previous trading day, indicating a YTD return of +30.04%.
Similarly, the market capitalization decreased by N148 billion to 58.918 trillion from N59.066trillion recorded at the previous trading day’s close. The market turnover however increased to N7.861 billion from N7.510 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 291,534,428 shares in 7,931 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 7,816,902,908.02, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, November 13), today’s data shows 18% improvement in volume, 4% improvement in turnover, but 5% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 58.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 120 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 32 gainers and 15 losers. Flour Mills Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 71.50 per share, followed by The Initiates (+10%), John Holt (+9.86%) and International Energy Insurance (+9.85%). On the losing side, Abbey Mortgage Bank came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.77% at NGN 2.40 per share, followed by Associated Bus Company (-9.45%), Conoil (-6.15%) and BUA Cement (-5.93%). Access Holdings recorded the highest volume of 60.4 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (17.9m), Zenith Bank (16.2m) and Oando (15.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 185.76 (-0.19%) points to close at 97,233.07, representing a 1-week gain of 0.32%, a 4-week loss of 0.86%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 30.04%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.16%; -0.18% 1WK; +31.27% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.95%; +0.57% 1WK; +40.31% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.56%; -0.04% 1WK; +38.75% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.53%; +1.43% 1WK; +16.54% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.4%; +0.71% 1WK; +32.61% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (+0.15%; +0.55% 1WK; +26.52% YTD).
