Equity investors lose N2.18bn as NGXASI declines by 0.004%
Nigeria’s equities market closed negative Wednesday, as the NGX-ASI decreased to 99,802.08 from 99,805.95 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +19.97%.
Market capitalization also decreased by N2.18 billion to N56,456 trillion from N56,459 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, the market turnover decreased to N11.839 billion from N53.956 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 935,148,864 shares in 8,160 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 11,839,828,382.50, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, July 9), today’s data shows 207% improvement in volume, 137% improvement in turnover, but 1% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 117 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 26 gainers and 22 losers. Associated Bus Company led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.77 per share, followed by Eterna (+9.88%), Livestock Feeds (+9.63%) and Vitafoam Nigeria (+9.44%).
On the losing side, Thomas Wyatt Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 2.16 per share, followed by Daar Communications (-8.77%), Computer Warehouse Group (-5.48%) and Royal Exchange (-4.11%). Fidelity Bank recorded the highest volume of 698 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (36.3m), United Bank for Africa (26.4m) and Guaranty Trust Holding (14.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 3.87 points to close at 99,802.08, representing a 1-week loss of 0.5%, a 4-week gain of 0.59%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 33.47%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.03%; -0.79% 1WK; +32.28% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.37%; +5.34% 1WK; +45.45% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.34%; +0.1% 1WK; +40.6% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.07%; -0.04% 1WK; +35.68% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.02%; +0.12% 1WK; +73.63% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (-0.05%; -0.99% 1WK; +15.7% YTD).
