
Equity investors lose N24.51bn as NGXASI declines by 0.04%


Nigeria’s Equities market closed negative Wednesday , as the NGX-ASI decreased to 100,032.32 from 100,075.59 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +33.78%.
Market capitalization also decreased by N24.00 billion to N56.646 trillion from N56.670 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. The market turnover increased to N10.076 billion from N7.425 billion.

At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 1,099,300,929 shares in 8,720 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 10,076,409,991.74, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, July 16), today’s data shows 198% improvement in volume, 36% improvement in turnover, and 7% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 118 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 28 gainers and 15 losers. United Capital led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 36.30 per share, followed by Africa Prudential (+9.88%), Cutix (+9.86%) and Oando (+5.62%). On the losing side, RT Briscoe came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 5.71% at NGN 0.66 per share, followed by FTN Cocoa Processors (-4.44%), Tantalizers (-4.26%) and Neimeth International Pharma (-3.53%). Jaiz Bank recorded the highest volume of 528 million traded shares, followed by Cutix (195m), Zenith Bank (77.8m) and Universal Insurance Company (36.3m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 43.27 (-0.04%) points to close at 100,032.32, representing a 1-week gain of 0.23%, a 4-week gain of 0.19%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 33.78%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0%; +0.22% 1WK; +32.57% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.09%; +2.98% 1WK; -3.01% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.36%; +1.15% 1WK; +17.04% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.16%; +0.2% 1WK; +35.96% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.05%; -1.07% 1WK; +43.89% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (+0.01%; +0.05% 1WK; +73.72% YTD).
