Equity investors lose  N248.30bn as NGX-ASI declines by 0.44%

Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on  Monday  as the NGX-ASI decreased to 99,651.67 from 99,743.05 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +33.27%.

Market capitalization also decreased by N51.70 billion to N56.371 trillion from N56.423 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N19.169 billion from N11.346 billion.

At the end of the first weekday of trading , a total of 973,622,713 shares in 9,941 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 19,315,063,885.62, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, June 21), today’s data shows 58% improvement in volume, 70% improvement in turnover, and 7% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.2 trillion.

In the aggregate, 128 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 20 gainers and 27 losers. Secure Electronic Technology led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.55 per share, followed by VFD Group (+9.85%), John Holt (+9.58%) and Thomas Wyatt Nigeria (+9.52%).

 On the losing side, International Breweries came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 3.96 per share, followed by Deap Capital Management & Trust (-8.93%), Daar Communications (-8.77%) and Beta Glass Company (-8.62%). FBN Holdings recorded the highest volume of 628 million traded shares, followed by Beta Glass Company (35.7m), Veritas Kapital Assurance (35.3m) and Chams (26.2m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 438.93 (-0.44%) points to close at 99,304.12, representing a 1-week loss of 0.53%, a 4-week gain of 1.2%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 32.81%.

 Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.43%; -0.43% 1WK; +31.84% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.05%; -0.46% 1WK; +18.73% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; +0.21% 1WK; +30.65% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.17%; +0.15% 1WK; +73.42% YTD), NGX Premium Index (-0.34%; -1.17% 1WK; +34.93% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (-0.41%; -0.17% 1WK; +13.35% YTD).
